WHAT IS ORIGAMI?

Origami is the craft of Japanese traditional paperfolding using the square papers of different colors and designs. Origami was a way of daily enjoyment among children and even adults from old times.

The skills have been passed down from mothers and grandmothers to their kids, and even now, most kindergarden offer the origami lessons as a daily activity.

It enhances the control of finger moves and give a good stimulus for the brain development of children. Some hospitals are using origami as a way of rehabilitation.

The most popular traditional design is a crane. Japanese sometimes fold as many as one thousands cranes for their sick friends or relatives to pray for the recovery as cranes are regarded as the messengers to the God. Its balanced shape is very artistic and beautiful.

Nowadays, origami is getting popular all over the world and many foreign origami artists are also seeking and trying their original innovative designs.

The technique of folding and re-opening of origami is also utilized in NASA for the wings of space shuttles to minimize the load space.
